Let the CPU wars begin: AMD shows its Zen CPU can compete with Intel’s best

If it was my company and my compiler I'd not optimize for my competitors chips either - not like anyone is forced to use Intel's compiler.
Could have used microsoft's, GCC or LLVM.

I mean it sucks but it isn't and shouldn't be intel's responsibility to pay for the developer hours for their competitor - and they didn't "cripple" AMD chips. AMD chips simply didn't get the same optimization passes that "GenuineIntel" chips did.

Intel's compiler was never intended to be a generic compiler it was intended specifically for Intel products from the start. Basically it was intended for enterprise developers who knew their servers were going to be running intel hardware to get the absolute best performance.

The fact that it ended up being used as a generic compiler (because it produces really good fast binaries on Intel hardware and Intel are the leading CPU brand) really isn't Intel's fault.
Now could they have enabled SSE2 and SSE3 on AMD chips in their compilers? Sure - but who's going to pay for the developer hours required to implement that properly, and bug test on AMD platforms, and pay for the support staff?
