[A Levels] how much is GP based on luck and how difficult is it to get an A?

i just wanna say that whether you think GP is based on luck or not is largely subjective imo!! if you’ve studied really hard by practising enough papers, seeing your teachers for consultation to improve on your mistakes & making the effort to remember relevant examples, for paper 1 & AQ, i think you are good to go! however i do wanna say that i did all of the above-mentioned & still scored a pathetic E at the A-levels last year, hence i believe luck kinda does play a tiny part ultimately!. Honestly, i was taken aback by the topic set for comprehension & AQ which was on apology. i was actually well-prepared to write an AQ bc i practised hard enough & even asked my teacher to mark & give me feedback on my practice papers during consultation countless of times. but on the actual day of the exam, i spent close to 20-30 mins cracking my brain trying to think of examples for that particular topic on apology & only managed to write one good example about josephine teo :(… rly at that moment, i wanted to cry because like all i could think of was how unlucky i was! i even created an example bank & consistently read the news to update my example bank & even so, i rly did not expect such a topic to come out :( i still ask myself is it because i did not study hard enough when i did everything i could or am i just really unlucky? to add on, i did pretty decent for GP at school like i averaged between B’s & C’s! i never once became complacent so yeah i think for my case, i was ultimately unlucky :(… don’t feel discouraged tho! i wld recommend you to mentally prepare yourself to see weird/unusual topics emerge for comprehension at the A-levels & just do your best! i did hear of stories of people saying that certain markers at the A-levels are more lenient than others but no one rly knows how much truth this statement holds so my best advice to you is to do your best & don’t give up!
