life in kitchener in the 2000s

I started at St.Marys in 2008. It felt pretty isolated in those days when the Fallowfield Drive neighborhood was still in its infancy, the Block Line Road extension over the rail ditch was nonexistent, and the plaza out front was just getting under construction. Until then, our only external option for food was the shitty Tim Hortons rammed inside the gas station at Kingswood Drive.

Downtown Kitchener was, in contrast to today, quite the shithole. Fairview Park has recently been renovated and Conestoga Mall was undergoing expansion which included the new foodcourt.

The school boards in those days utilized GRT as the primary means of transportation for high school students and subsidized the cost of the bus pass. Needless to say, GRT was my primary means of transportation in those days and it's certainly come a long way since then.

Overall, growing up in the 2000's was quite uneventful around here.
