LiveLeak.com - CCTV Captures Woman's Terrifying Ordeal During Home Invasion

Actually I can but reddit has been strange lately and I only just saw the replies now. Here are some of the things I've read although this is by no means a proper rebuttal and only what I've personally read that lead me to some of those conclusions:

Owning a gun has been linked to higher risks of homicide, suicide, and accidental death by gun.

• For every time a gun is used in self-defense in the home, there are 7 assaults or murders, 11 suicide attempts, and 4 accidents involving guns in or around a home.

In 2011, nearly 10 times more people were shot and killed in arguments than by civilians trying to stop a crime.

• In one survey, nearly 1% of Americans reported using guns to defend themselves or their property. However, a closer look at their claims found that more than 50% involved using guns in an aggressive manner, such as escalating an argument.

• A Philadelphia study found that the odds of an assault victim being shot were 4.5 times greater if he carried a gun. His odds of being killed were 4.2 times greater.

My opinion time

I feel like firearms are neat, and I think they should be legal to own to hunt and to do shooting with, however guns for self defense have been proven to backfire on many occasions and endanger people around them. Plus legally owned guns are always slipping into the hands of the bad guy, again remember the girl I mentioned that had her guns stolen during a burglary while it was streamed and still they got away (for a short period of time). Look, why the fuck are civilians allowed to own SMGs? What possible purpose could one ever need to use them? They'll never be used for hunting, they're weapons designed for war, for mowing people down with fast projectiles. There's no reason for a civilian to be able to own that in his home with stores of ammo. Look at all of the people with military grade weapons in the US, tons of semi-automatic AR15's that are equally devastating as a fully automatic gun. The fact that they're so readily available to the public is shocking. I think your government and people are being irresponsible. We've seen enough school shootings to know how devastating they are.
