Looking to create unique character classes that break the classic cliche molds and would love to hear your concepts/ideas? (Xpost /rpg)

Story Mode's 70+ characters are heavily based on (J)RPG class archetypes and the like, and I tend to not include very distinct classes (though having 70+ and trying to make them all distinct kinda makes them less derivative for me haha), but just some examples of the less traditional ones:

  • The Deserter: In my lore, "Deserters" are just a group of nomadic people gliding across the desert, and so this character is all about movement, roaming across the map, and can keep both distance and pace with enemies, using sand magic and stuff at them.

  • The Devourer: Sort of Lovecraftian, it's just a class that gains more power based on the more he consumes, encouraged to take on targets bigger than him for greater rewards. It's a reward or regret system!

  • The Elementalist: A martial-artist who also uses a ton of fire/ice magic. While focusing a lot on close-range combat, whether she uses fire to be a lightning bruiser or ice to be a stone wall is based on the individual enemy she's fighting, so it can be pretty versatile.

  • The Harbinger: Another slightly Lovecraftian class; one that draws power from the nonexistent, and able to "null" things from coming into existence, with a lot of silences and desynchronization.

  • The Machina: It's a magitek-powered spider tank. It has a lot of guns, missiles, and a railgun. Tank.

  • The Scavenger: Very fast, and heavily encouraged to roam around the map to find scrap metal to affix to their body like armor, or just as junk to shoot or fling at people with.

I made a full list of the classes/characters with hypothetical movesets as a self-imposed challenge, and if you wanna scroll through for more with better explanations, here's the link :D
