Yeah, I don't get the Debbie love here. She is clearly a very selfish person.

That slow kindergarten teacher voice she put on really rubbed me the wrong way when she was scolding 24 year old Oussama because he wasn't ready to rush headlong into marrying this grandma. As others pointed out, she used the same tone you would use when talking to kindergarteners with him: really deliberate, 100% confident that she was in the right and he had "taken something from her" by not wanting immediate marriage. I don't understand why people found that charming: it almost gave me chills. She is super immature and a master manipulator. You can really see the kind of mother she must have been.

I mean, it is a big deal to ask someone of his age, from his culture, to turn his back on societal/familial expectations and marry an elderly person who is not going to care for his parents or give him children. She should ENCOURAGE him to slow down and think very carefully about the implications of his choice, not pressure him or make him feel bad if he hesitates. It's like she wants him to go along with her pretending that they are equals in age and life experience. She isn't thinking about what the marriage will mean/do to him, only about herself and what she wants.
