[LW][15b] Poeple complain about 15b difficulty, and I don't get it.

I actually write as a hobby so I'm quite fond of using them as tools of emphasis. It helps a lot! It's also a lot more fun to write that way.

But I have to disagree wholeheartedly and I have to vehemently reject the notion that I'm "just upset that b15 is different". Please don't apply such a basic and ridiculous summary to a complex argument, especially without any meaningful evidence to that end. I'm probably one of the only people on r/xcom who doesn't use MECs, so the changes are disproportionately light to me. I just disagree with the design changes.

Anyways. Lowering the meld from organic aliens is a significant blow since it isn't simply a matter of having "10 or more aliens and not using any explosives". It's a matter of "having a combination of aliens that will grant more than 10 meld". This can actually be less than 10 (floaters give 0.2) but will very often have to be either significantly less (due to the extra fractions from mechanical units) or much more (due to the fact that the ever-ubiquitous drones and seekers give 0 meld). Provided that meld from mechanical enemies isn't lost from damage (my understanding is that meld loss from explosive damage is an organic phenomena and I've only done informal tests to this end) you're generally rewarded for taking them with you. You're more likely to run into situations with fractional wasted meld than you were before, as well as scenarios in which you have the liberty to freely use those explosives. If they simply wanted to increase the value of not using explosives, they didn't have to make this kind of change (reducing meld from aliens) in order to accomplish that, they simply had to make meld more desirable. They did both, which doesn't accomplish a whole lot more other than making meld (ironically) swingy as hell. Your capacity to stock it effectively is now dependent on the aliens gathering resources efficiently enough to make sure the canisters have a wealthy stock. I think that's a dumb change! I also think it was exceedingly harsh, when put into the context of the broad and sweeping changes that were applied to the game. Canisters could have been made more appealing in other, much more sensible ways.

Though I think you might be slightly confused as UFOs do not provide Meld, at least uniquely. There's no nod to such a mechanic in the .ini file. There are lines for alloys and elerium, but no such lines for Meld (nor are they referenced in the section for "hardcoded" rewards).

That all said, for the love of god please don't degrade legitimate complaints and ideas (however poorly articulated) to "wailing". Infantalizing criticism is a really good way to make sure you stop getting it, including the legitimate criticism. Even bad criticism has a use and whining about whining is not only incredibly pointless, it's incredibly counterproductive.
