Married people of reddit, what's your favorite tradition you started with your spouse?

Goth Christmas.

Okay here me out.

I come from an abusive narcissistic family. That one day of the year was a war zone of screaming, fighting, destroying each other, and calling the police. Christmas was hell and even as an adult I've hated it. I mean grinch has got nothing on me.

So wife had a bad family too but they pulled everything together for that holiday. It was her heaven. She loves Christmas.

After several years of arguments (at least heated debates with no real resolution) wife asked what my favorite holiday is.

Easy. Halloween. Best day ever.

So she asked what I liked about it. I'm an artist. I love fabricating costumes and anything dark/creepy/horror related. She decided that we would do a halloween version of Christmas every year.

We have a smaller black fake tree with yellow lights. I make the ornaments every year and we keep the best ones. Everything is black, metallic, pearl, natural wood, and paper. Many of the ornaments have creepy figures on them.

We wake up when we want. We don't talk to anyone unless we want to, and best of all we only get one small present each.

Oh, and the tree topper is a weird voodoo doll like creature we call "Strange Carl."

He has black soulless eyes and a sinister smile.

Bonus points: we get to re use a lot of the Halloween decorations since I don't like those kitchy and shittily executed store bought decorations/props. I make everything myself.

I love goth Christmas.
