Hi, bassist here. If you want to: Go for it. One of the great things about bass is that you (most of the time) don’t have to worry about chords, and for most songs and bands, they’ll just require you to play more simple lines, but when you get up to the level of playing more complicated, energetic lines, and even solos, the different sounds you can get out of basses (slap, pop, plucking, tapping) can add an extra layer that sounds incredible. Look at stuff like AC/DC or The Police for simpler stuff at the start, then move onto some Metallica (though Enter Sandman is a great beginner song), Rush, Primus (if you want to get weird), Tool, and the genres of funk and jazz later down the line.
