[Meta] What's the opinion on Webslueths?

A lot of my personal issues with them stemmed from the Benjaman Kyle case, especially when the admins locked the thread because they "determined" he was "faking" based on the fact that they supposedly acquired his medical records and determined that there appeared to be no evidence that he'd been assaulted, therefore he must be faking his amnesia.

Of course, my argument was, so what? There are many other things which can cause memory loss and/or brain damage, granted his case was rare and truly exceptional. But hardly anyone there would even consider that his amnesia might have been caused by a medical condition, mental illness, poisoning, substance abuse, or some physical, neurological or metabolic illnesses, etc.

First responders found him naked behind a Burger King dumpster, so it's easy to see how it could have been initially misreported as an assault. This would seem like a logical first impression to responders to draw on the scene.

That doesn't mean he was lying or faking.

Of course he might well have been, but my point is that you can't rule any out because reports seem to indicate that he didn't appear to have a head injury.

But they went ahead and closed it anyway and put up a notification due to the face that he was clearly faking.

And again, my response was, so what?

The question being asked was "Who is he?" not "Is he faking?"

If he's faking we uncover his scam, if he's not then maybe we can help him.

I was promptly shouted down and removed.

Haven't been back since.

Thankfully it worked out for him in the end. From what I've read, his case has been resolved and he has been reunited with his family in Indiana, I believe.
