Microsoft acquired Skype for $8.5 billion back in 2011, the same year Zoom was founded. If the coronavirus pandemic happened in 2011, everyone would have used Skype for video calls. Now everyone is using Zoom instead, because Microsoft spent nearly 10 years mismanaging Skype...

security as a business

Teams and Zoom are equal on this stage. Both are secure and HIPPA compliant. (And compliant with EU directives that my weekend brain doesnt remember)

You can make the argument t, competitively on deeper integration with sharepoijt, etc. Agreed.

MSFT most definitely mismanaged SfB and also Teams as did Zoom as did WebEx by building siloed tools. What good is an iPhone 11 if it can only communicate with other iPhone 11 users? Proven point by both Zoom and MSFT now building in guest join to Webex and each other. Each platform has its pros and cons.

What most dont understand is the underlying network/protocol reasons that MSFT killed SfB and went to Teams and thus we get a misinformed take as in the linked artical.
