The reason behind that is because there is no AH. Instead, Guilds set up stores in towns to sell their stuff. The system works and it is more immersive. You can't just click on a AH and browse everything in the world. You have to go to the places that are selling the stuff.
This is like double edged sword,its fun to go to guild trader and buy stuff but Items come's in mail is not so immersive. Main problem no one bother using guild traders outside the main city's and some outlaw refuges. guilds have 500 member limit,guild must bid to the trader to sell their items so they will most likely invite hardcore farmers or charge weekly fee so most players wont able to sell their loot in auction house,either way you have to sell that loot to npc for cheap or spam the map chat for days. lots of trading guilds advertise in zone chat for recruitment but you wont sell anything in that guild because almost everyone use traders in main cities and you will lose gold when try to sell items on less populated guilds because all items have 30day listing fee so it will be canceled from auction house after 30 days and minus listing fee.
My thoughts dont play eso if it your first mmo,its like skyrim with co-op mod,quests are not group friendly,pvp is mess , each class become OP with new patch and no arena in this game so just laging zerg fest. User interface is so bulky, you cant change anything on the fly like normal mmo. player trading is getting worse with each update(motifs,food,potions,vampire bites) , people used to gather motifs and craft food to earn gold. now days you can buy them with real money. mount speed can be can be bought with money but its capped only one feeding per day in ingame (it will give nice advantage in pvp and resource node gathering )
Another problem is zoe keep promising lots of things but nothing happens even after two years(i am looking at you veteran ranks,housing) but it doesn't affect new players
Good thing about this game - World is so large,lots of unique npc's and quests, another elder scroll game.
