Monogram or Checkered? Why?

I think the patina on monogram pieces can be quite beautiful, and I do like the color pallets of brown/warm caramel. But, I personally prefer and have more of the Damier pieces. Aesthetically, I just enjoy the Azur. And, for functionality and wear, the pre-darkened handles on the damier ebene make it extremely stress free to wear and use — especially in the rain or for travel. The only time I prefer monogram is on a piece with lots of vachetta as part of the design of the piece where I know that with age, it will be an attractive bag. Sometimes I prefer monogram on small leather goods because they seem very plain with the damier/checkered pattern and it makes me wonder why I am paying a premium when I can buy a coated canvas “checkered” patterned toiletry for $25 dollars on Amazon and have the same durability.
