Monthly Critic Thread - March 2015

((Worldname:** The Holy State of G'hurik - (Ash M'Disivahaba G'hurik'va in their own tongue, G'Masik)

Criticism wanted for: Its supposed to be hard Sci-Fi, a realistic, politically sound society without too much obvious inspiration from Earth, tell me what's bad about it and what works well.

Purpose: Not entirely sure yet, hopefully a novel. This particular world is but one state in an extremely crowded intergalactic political scene.

Main Inspirations: The Iranian theocracy, the HRE, Sakoku Japan and France during the 1800s. Lots of inspiration from lots of sources.

Lore:

*The Holy State of G'hurik - *Ash M'Disivahaba G'hurik'va ** The HSG is a medium sized, deeply religious state that wields disproportiante influence within the galactic community due to forming the majority of the border between Human-dominated space and Haasik territory. A Haasik nation themselves, the Haasik are a proud race which, alongside the protectionist Viir were among the first species in space and were primary actors in establishing the intergalactic community in the early 22nd century. Naturally, the Haasik are proud of their accomplishments, most of which occurered when Haasik space was united under a single polity at the end of the 21st century. At the dawn of the 22nd century, much of Haasik space began to splinter into smaller states with often radically different ideologies and allegiences. The HSG is one of those new states.

Religiously, the HSG are Hwaani, and thus feverently attached to the Waa faith, a pantheistic religion which emphasises the universality of god and places special importance on monasticism and solitude. The HSG have been actively involved in spreading the Waa faith, something which has been a huge stumbling block for their relations with non-Hwaani humans.

The Holy State of G'hurik is relatively small and often shunned by other Haasik nations throughout inhabited space, however even the weaker Haasik states are capable of standing toe to toe with the ASGC2, and the HSG is still nominally a member state of the UHMS, an intergovernmental body aiming to enhance cooperation between the Haasik peoples. As such, though the ASGC continues to accuse the HSG of supporting H'waani extremists in its frontier provinces, an accusation the HSG refuses to officially comment on, war between the HSG and ASGC has long been considered a very remote possibility.

That said, relations between the two states are consistently very poor and have been since the HSGs inception as a result of a religiously motivated rebellion in 2132. The HSG maintains an official position of H'waani fundamentalism, and though the faith is largely peaceful, its rapid expansion into human space over the last 50 years has garnered it serious controversy and scorn among the peoples of the home system in particular. The HSG is largely ostracized even within the other Haasik states such as the FHW2, arguably the most powerful state in the galaxy, but has aligned itself with the HHA3 and, perhaps most alarmingly, has made overtures towards the officially neutral TCS4. Within Haasik states, the IHC5 and the HSG are officially allied, though relations have begun to cool.

Key:

1 - ASGC; the Association of Self Governing Colonies. This is the largest of the Human states and the only able to claim Earth as its capital and thus the prestigious Solar Mandate. ASGC territory isn't particularly contigous and is broken up in places by smaller states, most notably the TCS.

2 - FHW. The Federation of H'Murritash Worlds is the largest state of the Haasik peoples. As such, it is also likely the galaxies foremost power and wields a navy larger than the top 3 human navies combined. 3 - HHA. The Human-Hwaani Alliance is a confederation of Hwaani planets which have managed to declare their independence from the ASGC. On the whole, HHA policy is directly antagonistic to the ASGC and calls for the rest of the frontier to be annexed into the HHA. Though far smaller than the HHA, she is officially aligned with the HSG and thus the ASGC does not dare risk war.

4 - TCS. The trading confederation of Saturnalia started as a loose political alignment of states which had sprung up on the moons of Jupiter and Saturn. Their position in the middle of the Solar system made them incredibly high traffic shipping lanes and the first refuel stop for those seeking to reach human colonies outside of the solar system. Eventually the TCS declared her independence from the ASGC and seized much of the Asteroid belt, significant portions of the Kupier belt and have made several claims to both Uranus and Neptune. The ASGC officially recognised TCS ownership of Neptunes moons and the Kupier belt in 2174 in return for a large bailout package from the wealthy confederation.

5 - IHC. the Interplanetery Haasik Commission is a conservative Hassik nationalist state. It is closed to all aliens and most Haasik, and so little is known about it.
