Moving to Calvert County, MD

North Beach is decent if you’re looking for peace and quiet. They used to have a gigantic farmers market every Friday night that was the county’s big outing. Food trucks, winery vendors, crafts, etc. unfortunately the city council recently decided to cancel it and move it to Saturday mornings (and make it so small than it used to be that vendors are limited). The residents are fighting against this decision now.

Depending on where you live in NB (especially waterfront), you may have to invest in flood insurance and it’s not cheap. Some streets flood on heavy rain days. If a hurricane comes (one has back 2003), you will need to evacuate.

Then there’s the recent loose dogs issues that’s been happening for a couple years now. There have been a couple dog attacks. Make sure you got a fenced yard.

Regarding the beach, it’s up in the air. Last year NB council CLOSED it to EVERYONE last year. Residents complained about living by the beach but not being allowed to have access when they pay to local taxes (if you lived in private beach communities along Calvert you were not affected). NB has not stated if they will reopen to the public yet, but they are talking about issuing ticket passes to NB residents only.

The restaurants are nice and Happy Harbor/Rose Haven is a very nice spot. Get your crabs at Chesapeake Bounty for a very good price.
