MRI cross sections of upper legs, showing the difference in muscle, intramuscular fat, and subcutaneous fat of a middle aged athlete, an elderly athlete, and an elderly sedentary person.

So I used to work at a tissue bank. We would receive tissue from deceased donors in the form of all the bones from the waist down and several tendons from the legs. We would then have to clean the bones off and cut them down into different grafts and package said grafts. We were not given any personal information about the donor other than height, weight, age and gender. The amount of different types of muscle and bones and tendons i saw there was insane. People in their seventies with bones made of concrete, people in their 20's with brittle little bird bones. The big thing was the quality of muscle tissue though. It was immediately obvious how healthy the donor was based on the color of their muscles.
