So my son has been prescribed Conerta as well as Focalin.

Man I could write a thousand mile long essay on this topic, but I'll keep it short and sweet because I'm on my phone.

Without getting too deep into the medical industry just understand that getting children addicted to drugs is very profitable. (I'm sure you can imagine)

ADD/ADHD is a supposed dopamine deficiency/"natural" (non drug induced) tolerance to dopamine.

I believe that many people have ADHD, because the human brain works thru this mechanism called neuroplasticity which means that it adapts very quickly and well to change in order to maintain homeostasis.

Now in the society we live in, think of all the stimulus. TV TV TV since the kid popped out of the womb, then Video games/ iNternet access. Over flavored, overtextured, overdriven shit everywhere, in everyone's face. Advertisements, music, school, just sociality anymore revolves around so much stimulus.

So it's only natural that kids develop a fucking tolerance to dopamine. Sit there and play Halo 6 hours a day (not saying your son) and stimulate (dopaminate) the fuck out of your brain and of course your going to develop a tolerance. External stimulus works thru the same mechanism (dopamine) as internal stimulus such as drugs.

While giving a person with a dopamine tolerance extra dopamine (which is what amphetamine does) fixes the problem temporarily, it worsens it long term. The person develops not only a huge affinity for the drug they are taking, but ALL recreational drugs because all recreational drugs release dopamine.

So yeah, it's kinda like setting your kid up for an addiction of some type. Maybe your kid gets super into video games. Maybe porn and the internet. Maybe drugs. Maybe he becomes a workaholic. Maybe he's a TV addict, or he gets addicted to adrenaline shit and becomes a pro downhill mountain biker. It doesn't have to result in something negative but I think it definitely can.

You see what I mean? I know from personal experience this is what happened to me. I have a good memory and I was an introspective kid so I remember realizing as a kid "why am I playing this video game, this isn't even fun anymore". I'd sit down, pick up a controller and start playing absolutely 110% compulsively and I believe it was a huge contributor to developing OCD and ADD.

What can you do to stop it? Probably nothing. Everything is in our face, were all sucked into our stimulus whether it's coffee, cigarettes, TV, xanax, LoL or WoW, adderall, snapchat instagram Facebook reddit cars ads food fuckin this that and the other thing that people get addicted to.

If I could go back is say fuck all electronics and go outside. I know that sounds like some fuckin old Luddite-esque hippie parenting shit but it's not. I'm a 20 year old stoner kid man... Not some retard trying to get you to give your kid essential oils and a Montessori. If I'm saying this it's for a reason, because I experienced it myself. I'm not saying video games r bad mmmmkay, amphetamine is bad mmmkay? I like both of those things.

I'm just saying. Shits fucked, I don't know what to do about it in the big picture but I know that "we" don't have it all figured out. But the pharmaceutical and medical industries have figured out a way to gouge the fuck out of the population.
