My thoughts on the Bucs (past and future)

*draft Winston round 1 I agree. The team has never had a true "franchise" QB and I think he's our best shot at one.

*draft Perryman round 2 (and keep mason foster to a cap friendly deal) I don't think Perryman has the pass coverage chops to cut it as Cover 2 Mike and doubt he will go as early as 34. I would love to be wrong about his coverage skills though. It seems he's the top MLB prospect in the draft and it would be great to have that very important position sorted out for the foreseeable future. As for Foster, he's gone. He's 26 with 4 years of starting experience. He's already drawing a fair amount of interest and will have more value to another team since he really doesn't fit the system here. Also, I think we already have our Mike in Lansanah, although no one around here seems to believe me.

*Keep Glennon on the roster I would not be opposed to this. I feel he brings more value as a serviceable backup than he would in a trade (especially considering the market has cooled for him since Cleveland and Buffalo have both made some moves at QB already).

*keep Goldson on a restructured deal He's gone. He costs too much and he doesn't really fit the scheme. He won't restructure because he's better off somewhere else.

*replace Koenen Agreed. Don't worry, he's as good as gone.

*trade or restucture Johnson (#90) I'm still not sure what to make of Michael Johnson. Obviously, he had a disappointing season, but he had a few decent games and no one outside of the team knows how badly injured he really was. No one will trade for him as he is coming off a shitty year and his cap number is too high. I doubt he'll be willing to restructure. Not when there is a chance the team will keep him for another year. Now the real question here is whether or not Tampa will release him. His cap number is $9M (iirc), but the cap hit would be $7M (iirc), that would only leave a savings of $2M with which to replace him. Not a lot of money for a competent edge rusher in the NFL. Jacques Smith, while a great pickup, seems to only be a situational pass rusher. If the team can locate a replacement for ~$2M he's probably gone, if not, he'll be around another year.

*fortify our trenches within the draft and through free agency. (DL and OL) Absolutely! With a special emphasis on DE and LT. Easier said than done though. The idea of drafting and starting rookies at both QB and LT gives me indigestion and there is pretty slim pickings at LT in the free agent market. I sincerely hope we get more out of our draftees and free agent signees this year (Evans and McDonald excluded of course).

*Our Defense showed signs of life throughout last season, especially towards the end. Agreed. It was very apparent that the squad was improving as the year went on. It usually takes a couple of years to locate the right personnel and get them acclimated to the Cover 2 (look at the huge improvement Dallas made last season with their second year in the system). To add to your list, I add like to see them bring in another Safety to be paired with McDougall and a Sam (assuming Lansanah moves to Mike), in addition to the DE's previously mentioned. They do that and we should be watching a pretty solid defense next year.
