My toughts on Aly Art

Ahhh Aly Art.

I'm reminded of Homer's description of alcohol as "the cause of, and solution to, all of life's problems".

Except sort of the opposite of that?

Aly Art is probably the reason Kibbe kind of went "viral" and has fairly directly lead to him getting this book deal.

We probably wouldn't all be here if it weren't for her, even if it wasn't directly from her we first learnt about Kibbe. Im not aware of other any other Kibbe-centric content creator that has generated the 1.7million+ views she did from her video years ago? Does anyone know of a more popular influencer?

But... she is also probably responsible for the most harm to Kibbe's reputation & concepts as her overconfident use of non-verified celebrities and a sort of simplified, nuance-less explanation of his approach, has created way more misunderstandings than clarity. On the one hand I am hesitant to get too mad about it because I think content-creators stumbling across the Kibbe system would have no real reason to take it particularly seriously (nor should anyone have to take it seriously, it should be a fun idea we can take or leave).

But, I think her ways of describing the types is really depressing, even damaging, whether she means it or not. In the latest Youtube short on (unverified) Michelle Williams she says gamines need to dress with "childishness" which... just ugh. And the whole drag queen thing is just... I don't know. Even if it were true (and I don't agree at all - I don't believe people necessarily look terrible or cartoonish when they don't follow Kibbe), its just such a troubling, weird and unhelpful thing to bring up?

I can't imagine thinking ANY benefits coming from saying something like that... like, the worst thing in the book Kibbe says is that a certain approach might be unsophisticated, ageing or matronly, never, "you will look like a man dressed as a woman". And in fact, Kibbe did originally recommend quite bold & glamorous makeup choices to FNs.....
