New to rabbit ownership - tips please

Others here may disagree, but in my opinion domesticated buns should be primarily housed indoors. Because if outside, all sorts of things may happen; to include predators, diseases, escape; etc.

If inside, set up a bunny-specific area; and preferably one that is fenced in. You can free roam your bun if you choose, but it's still best to have a bunny area set aside where the bunny can hide, sleep, eat, and use the bathroom. Because if for some reason you do need to isolate your bun, said bunny will be fine in an area that is already known and comfortable.

Bunnies don't like hardwood floors. They have a hard time running/hopping on a slick floor, and when doing so may hurt themselves. If your bunny will be in an area of the house that has a lot of hardwood flooring, buy a non-slip, low pile rug (or two). Amazon is a good place to find these rugs at a reasonable price.

You'll find lots of information on-line about food and diet. Basically, quality pellets and lots of Timothy hay and water. Occasionally treats are fine, but in moderation. Fresh blueberries, fresh banana (or unsweetened, freeze-dried banana chips), certain veggies; etc. Bunnies have sensitive stomachs, so it's generally best to keep it as simple as possible.

And finally, bunnies are both curious and (at times) destructive. So be aware of anything in your house that may hurt the bunny (electrical cords, for example) and things that may be lying around that you don't want chewed to bits.

In short, common sense will go a long ways towards ensuring your bunny has a happy life.
