I usually just say 'yeah the store's really strict about not altering those because it's a potential risk to the store.

Depending on how the customer appears I might just explain it's to prevent people from scamming us and they'll sometimes respond 'well, I'M obviously not going to scam you' and in my head I'm like 'dude I've seen the most innocent motherfuckers be revealed as dirty theives, I can't trust a single one of you'.

Some regulars will try to bully you into with threats to your job just so they can get cheap paint, it's fucked. I want to just hang a sign that says 'no mistint alterations'.
