Is it normal to see kickstarters you backed in stores before you get it?

I had kickstarted "Among the Stars" https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/magecompany/among-the-stars and I was so stoked to get it.

The company was shipping from Greece, and it was my first kickstarter that I would be backing that wasn't from the US or Canada - I didn't mind because it looked really cool.

I didn't mind when they sold copies of it at events like Essen or Gencon (I don't remember if that was the case): seems like it still had the in crowd, exclusive feel to it.

What really hurt was that it went for sale nearly a month before I got it in the states, and someone from my gaming group who knew I was excited about getting it went ahead and bought it and played it with other people in the group. I still got the package from Greece (which at first looked like it was in ruff shape, likely from all that shipping overseas - but everything was okay), but by then it was like... "oh yeah... that's the game Jerry brought two weeks ago..."

the kicker is that Jerry paid a little less and got it earlier than I did and it didn't feel as special when I got it in. I know that the "Mage" company needed to sell as many as possible, but I haven't backed a project since that one.

P.S. Jerry, if you're reading this... you suck dude...
