Few comments to keep in mind while reading this dumpster fire of an article:

"Boosting Police Budget Big Time" means an increase of 100 million. Following a decrease in nearly a billion this time last year. YOY budget is down nearly 900 billion.

In reference to the "surge" in crime - the crime index is up by 2% YOY. Crime figures in total are down 7.15% YOY and nearly 4% from 2 years ago.

The extra 100 million allocated seems to be earmarked specifically for the building of a new precinct rather than any sort of response to crime figures.
