Official Discussion - X-Men: Apocalypse [SPOILERS]

At the end of the day, it feels like there was so much build, seemingly randomly inserted throughout the first half of the movie.. for absolutely no reason.

There was no payoff. One second Apocalypse was unstoppable, fending off Magneto, Cyclops, and everyone else while mind-crushing Charles, and then very next second he's a ragdoll. Yeah I get it Jean did some magic phoenix bullshit, but literally none of the movie went into developing her character or her abilities, and we're just supposed to accept that she was able to overpower the same mutant who was singlehandedly overpowering everyone else? Just felt like such an awful awful payoff for movie that just seemed never to know what it was building up to.

Also there were so many random characters that were just in the movie, but did absolutely nothing. Did Jubilee even use her powers? That CIA lady with no powers just chilling around half the movie contributing nothing outside of the "something even more powerful" line, despite getting more screen time than almost every mutant. Quicksilver comes all this way to meet his dad, and yet in the end decides to just drop his biggest motivation? What was the point of even coming? I swear to god I thought I was watching a CW tv show with how they handled that scene. "WE HAVE TO KEEP UP THE ANGST"

Ugh, the whole thing just left a bad taste in my mouth. They had so many cool characters, and did just about absolutely nothing with any of them. The horsemen got literally zero development outside of Magneto, and honestly contributed exactly zero to the overall plot of the movie. Psylocke got 3 lines in total? Storm sees Mystique and just decides to have a change of heart? Did Angel even talk?
