[Official] General Discussion Thread - July 18, 2020

Dana does not want a 165 division because management in general has much more power when the divisions are stacked. The supply is very high, so the UFC's bargaining power is high. We have a line of killers waiting for a title shot, if you try to go to the mattresses with us, we will give someone else the opportunity who is willing to take less pay.

Since 155 and 170 are the most populated weight classes, it's important for them to maintain this advantage. While the UFC opened more women's divisions, from a management point of view, absolutely zero of the women pose a bargaining challenge. None of them have any real leverage. Shevchenko, Nunes are great fighters but they don't really draw. Weili is a new champ, so we'll have to see with her, that could become interesting since she has potential to be a star in China.

If I was management this is what I would be thinking. Not necessarily what is best for the sport, but what is going to help me maintain my vice grip over the fighters.
