The word “transracial” keeps getting thrown around a lot and compared to “transgender”, they’re nowhere near the same and I’ll explain why below.

“Transracial” is a term used to describe children of certain races who have been adopted or otherwise grew up into a family of a different race/culture. An example of this would be a Chinese child who is adopted by white Americans parents. You cannot identify as “transracial” if you simply just want to change your race, that is not actually a thing nor is it a valid identity. To use the term transracial in a correct form would be “I grew up transracially” (meaning you are of a different race but were raised by parents of a race you are not). This is different from being Biracial when you are a mix of each parents race (like black/asian, black/white, asian/white, etc).
