And I just want to make sure that you understand me correctly. I’m not saying your parents indoctrinated you, I’m not saying your parents didn’t raise you right; I’m sure they’re very capable and loving people. It’s likely your parents were raised in religion, and your grandparents, and so forth. Each new generation learns from the previous generation and apply the teachings to the next one.

Religion takes full advantage of the concept of passing down information. When something has been taught since childhood, the ideas and worldviews will be tough to change. The belief has been held for so long and any notion that the belief might be false must be shut down swiftly. That doesn’t mean you’ve done anything wrong, and it doesn’t mean your parents have done anything wrong. It’s just religion trying to stay in power by any means necessary, and child indoctrination is probably the most powerful weapon in any religions arsenal.
