Once again r/LateStageCapitalism fails to understand it's own tax-and-redistribute shtick. Even if the premise were true, 50,000 well paid transplants would undoubtedly produce a civic windfall in local property, sales, and other taxes.

I live in the DC area, and have spent a great deal of time in NYC.

Both are incredibly transient areas. I think out the hundreds of people I know in DC, exactly one is a born-and-raised Washingtonian. Every time there's a "change" election we have thousands of people leave and thousands of people show up. And while Washingtonians might gripe about trivialities (e.g. all the cowboy boots that showed up when W was elected), no one seriously cares about some identity that needs to be maintained.

There are precisely zero people in this area, and I'm sure NYC too, who care about being "replaced" by out-of-towners. We're all fucking out-of-towners!! People like both cities precisely because they are dynamic and have a diverse population that includes people from all over the US.

Are we getting brigaded by LSC here? I don't understand all this anti-capitalist hate in the thread.
