OP served with a Cease and Desist. OP ceases and OP desists

You are not fixed. You didn't do a great job, you did what a decent person should do when they realize they have a problem.

For some reason, I find this very bleak. Like, it feels like we treat ex-drinkers much better than this. We say "yeah, you fucked up, and you have to own up for it. You have to face whatever penalties you have for your past actions. Other than what reparations you must make (or suffer from) with the people from your past, your Future Self can be redeemed"

I'm concerned about the way you phrased this. I'm getting a subtext of "OP can't be an ex - {whatever his condition is}. OP cannot go into remission. OP cannot be cured"

I'm worried because this sounds very defeatist to me, and sounds like the kind of attitude that encourages relapse in many individuals dealing with a compulsion.

If someone thinks, "oh I guess whatever I do, I'll always be thought of as such-and-such", what's to stop them from doing it again or being a danger to themselves or others?

OP fucked up, and will never become 100% normal, but the subtext of "rehab/therapy will have a trivial effect" is a dangerous line of thought
