First transgender candidate in NI to stand for Green Party in West Belfast (x post from r/northernireland)

I haven't seen racism or homophobia with the same pervasiveness it's had in the past

OooohhoooOOO you make my blood boil. I hate this petty attitude, where comfy liberals look at the past, with their modern mind and come up with conclusions based on ficton propaganda and fake realities.

I hate, HATE when people compare stuff to the past to feel good about themselves, it happens all the time. People in the past were far greater and superior to the shit society we have today. I hate when little yuppys like yourself feel an air of superiority as you glance back through the propaganda and re-written history books / movies and feel really really good about yourself. You'll watch some propaganda like 12 years a slave and come away 'Wow, everyone back in the day was homophobic, sexist, racist, dumb animals, I'm not, I'm a smart modern liberal!'

As if you can stereotype and tar all hundreds of billions of peaceful humans in the past with 'homophobic, sexist, racist past' because you once read some stories about how European men invented something and dey didnt share it :( ooh boohoo

This shit gets brought up all the time, in work, in groups of friends, family. 'You men can't get away with that anymore', 'this isnt 1950!!', 'ITS 2016!!!'. They pin racism and sexism on me and tell ME i can't get away with IT ANYMORE as if I was somehow ALIVE and when someone did something terribly racist sexist.

It even happened to my sister, some sexism row from the media came up and she came out of nowhere, looking at the males the whole 'yous could have got away with it in the 50s, this isn't the 50s anymore, YOU can't call a woman trying to work in an office some TART!!, YOU can't go up to a black and call him a nigger!!!' yous have been getting away with this for thousands of years, but we don't take it anymore'. I was so 'offended' and taken aback I was speechless. This is the SHIT they teach in schools? She is doing the EXACT thing she complains about, she pins racism and sexism on ME because I'm white and I'm a male she LECTURES me about past sexism and past racism, YOU cant call a woman a tart anymore, YOU cant call a black a nigger anymore. As if I did these things? What about women calling men names? What about black on white racism, which is far far far FAR more prevalent both today and historically? I hate that woman.
