Oregon’s timber industry says it can’t afford new taxes, despite record profits

Apologies, I didnt really make my point clear.

There would be no issue on taxing the lumber companies extra, but the issue I see is the expectation put on the lumber companies by the State and Federal government is that they have to operate as their own EPA, taxman(fee for replanting) and environmental review. Chugging along and cutting trees down and then getting a portion of your logging lands cut off because of wildlife/environmental issues would put the timber companies into a big crunch.

That responsibility shouldn't be on some private company to make sure there isn't biodiversity die off in some small section of forest, that should be the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management.

There are programs like this where these federal agencies oversee and sell of temporary logging rights but for some reason people don't see that as a good idea.

Our forests in the hands of Lumber company or in a Agency made to preserve our forests?
