Pakistan’s Unnecessary Martyrs

That's correct. That's why there are countless raids being conducted daily to arrest people since Zarb-e-Azab started. But because of the scale of the problem, you can't get everyone.

Simply conducting raids after the attack, won't bring back those who perished. If only these raids conducted before; there was clear warning of terrorist attack with the exact names of terrorists. Pakistan's problem is that all the measures are reactive not preventive. We wake up only after something happens, rush up few things and then lax down within months. The Intelligence Agencies military & non military should be held a accountable a little bit, if reason for failure be accessed not for sake of hold him responsible but rather to make amends and future prevention, but no body never accepts his failure rather points out at something else. It is not the failure of single person or agency rather a collective failure; it is well known fact coordination of Pakistani intelligence agencies isn't top notch.

The Jihadi mentality was nurtured as a result of an existential hreat to Pakistan from the Soviet designs in the region. It was also supported by the CIA and Saudi Arabia. At that time it was the right thing to do as the other options were much more dire.

There are some who might beg to differ regarding the soviet thing but frankly it matters not now, the point is it was done and now we are facing problems which originated from it. Lets leave it aside.

And nothing was "kept". Once the genie was out of the bottle, it was no longer in any real control of anyone. The inevitable shift to Kashmir was going to happen as the next regional battleground and of course Pakistan also had a vested interest in ensuring that Indians get a tough time in Kashmir after their brutal campaign of suppression against Kashmirs.

We hold the Mujaheddin close to us and helped them regain power in Afghanistan against the Northern Alliance, which was quite justifiable as American's completely forgot about the Afghanistan once the soviets had left and they had taken care of all the stingers, making Afghanistan a practical hellhole. As for Kashmiri Jihadi breed it was done after the American wrap up because Americans wouldn't have allowed it; objective replication of what was done to Soviets by Americans but it failed to produce the desired results. All Kashimiri groups operated freely in Pakistan had close association with Pakistani military. Pakistan military dissociated itself from them after the Indian Parliament attack back in 2003 after Musharaf declared them 'Stateless actors' that was followed by some these groups establishing links with TTP and conducted attacks in Pakistan.

You spelled out the problem yourself. There is public support for these groups. Do you want to exterminate people who support jihadi causes?

Why so little is being done to remove this public support from these groups. Why was the 'Stateless groups' allowed to operate under different names and yet continue their actives. you could easily join any of them. They openly preached Jihad against India and America. Recruitment of Afghan jihandis wasn't that secret either. One of two my friends were offered the opportunity to join holy Jihad in Afghanistan just a few years back. This changed a bit after the APS, but still there is so much that has to be done. Why hasn't Pakistani state established and promoted a counter narrative to this "Jihadi thinking." You'll find next to no objection by any one if you are preaching Jihad in Afghanistan.

You can't have that if Pakistan throws all their leaders in jail. It's not like that will end the insurgency. Many Afghans support the Taliban too in case you missed that. Far more than the Pakistanis who support the TTP.

Then good luck asking Afghan government to do the same for TTP.

Pakistan was indirectly involved in Afghanistan ever since soviets arrived in Afghanistan. Be helping the revolt, training Mujaheddin, helping Mujaheddin to take control after the soviets left. Hey Pakistani general's like Hammed Gul (Murhoom) proudly present it as the great achievements.

Yes Afghan government is accepting Taliban as part of peace process , big plus for Pakistan who maintained relations with both the americans and Taliban; who were killing each other.

Pakistan has to put his weight behind the will of Afghan people not Taliban who might have support in Afghanistan but don't enjoy unanimous support, there major support point is that they are fighting the foreigner Imperialist forces. Take them out of equation and they hardly got anything behind to gain pubic support apart from the weapons which can be used to enforce their rule.

Pakistan's hard choice is getting rid of this Jihad mentality indiscriminately without making any exceptions of Good Jihad, Bad Jihad, Good Taliban who fight americans, Mujahids who fight India. Pakistan is making progress in this direction but it needs to speed things up.
