Do people still think of Arin as a game design genius?

I think it's because the amount of criticism (or maybe he sees it at backlashing) of what he says. I know he was disappointed in how he portrayed Zelda in Sequalitis, but if I were making this and I had constant rewrites, taking jokes out, taking this long because of uncertainty and displeasure (and procrastination) about the Zelda one… Maybe it's not ready to be made. I actually cringed when he was screaming about Skyward Sword because it felt extremely insulting to people who like it. I know he didn't even criticize it other than "You took fun and made it unfun.".. that's a statement not a critical analysis. The question should have been "You wanna know how you made this game so un-fun Skyward?". That would have been a bit more critical response to begin with. I know he said he wants to talk about it in a next episode, but I hope he's more critical than filling it with statements. I've mentioned I don't like Skyward Sword, and it has a lot to do with visuals and controls, but I understand peoples love for it. It's only been recent that people have been beating it like a dead horse for it being "The worse Zelda Title ever." And I think Arin was feeding into that hate at the time trying to make it the butt of the joke. Coming from someone who doesn't like the "hop the bandwagon", I find that really ironic.

Speaking of Hypocritical statements...

I was watching videos of when Arin said he hated SOTN and thought Metroidvania is almost an insult since Metroid "is superior in design". (It was the Aladdin Genesis Episodes) I noticed when Jon talked about his likes and dislikes, it was in a critical and genuine enjoyment. He mentioned "I love SOTN its perfect, but I have problems with it." Which sounds silly, but no one cared. He explained himself that the backtracking in the game was really frustrating at points and he mentioned another criticism (I can't remember though). But even he said he preferred "Circle of the Moon" (I think that was it?) over SOTN but for what SOTN started he appreciated it. Where when Arin criticized it, he says it's poorly designed and explains why it sucks. Which is fine if you feel that way, but his condescending attitude came off like "I don't see why so many people like this game." I mean again, he doesn't have to like the game but the attitude is what bothers me a lot.

I don't really care if he now switched his opinion on the game because of the Kickstarter… what I'm noticing is his very quiet opinions on the game. All he said were the graphics were really pretty in this game (which they're gorgeous), but I believe that was it. I'm wondering is Arin still dislikes this game or if he will be saying it at all… (Or they'll stop playing it who knows?).

It's like me saying I don't understand people who love Final Fantasy 7 because of a list of reasons they should hate it. Just because I don't like it, doesn't mean my opinions should be factual. But then the creator of FF7 knocked on my door and told me to promote his Spiritual Successor… and I turn around playing FF7 saying the games amazing… I feel like Arin can still be critical and promote the man's new game. Being dishonest for the sake of promotion is very upsetting and saddening. It basically tells me if.. say… Rare waved money in the Grumps face for a Donkey Kong spiritual successor, it could get Arin to change his opinion. That may not be the case, but that's how it felt for SOTN. Maybe his opinion changed.. but he's been pretty quiet about his opinion in the play through.
