picked this up for $4. is this a good pick for my first Stephen king novel?

This is my favorite answer.

He really has covered a ton of different genres. Something in the catalogue should work for OP, but it’s hard to know without more info about what OP likes.

Science fiction? Western? Writing textbook? Lovecraft-ish horror?

I like a villain that’s clearly supernatural or alien. So Misery, Cujo etc weren’t my favorites.

My husband prefers more realistic stories, so he LOVES Tom Gordon. But I get really bored with all of the baseball talk.

But my favorites are Tommyknockers and Duma Key. So my taste isn’t very popular. Desperation is a super wild ride, with fascinating concepts but strange execution. The talisman feels like the coming of age story we all needed, and are maybe sad we didn’t read sooner.

There’s just such a huge variety.

I would hate for anyone to start with Cell and judge the rest of the books based on that.
