What's something we should stop teaching our kids?

To just ignore people treating you like dirt. Fuck that and fuck them, stand up for yourself. Look, I know retaliating is "bad" and all that other crap, but the kids and people who do this kind of shit do it because it makes them feel powerful. They've never had someone (metaphorically or otherwise) punch them in the mouth. I was bullied almost the entire time I was in school. Taking a wild guess, I'd say 80% of the people I knew made fun of me on a daily basis. This includes teachers. This is from early elementary until my fucking junior year. I tried EVERYTHING I was told. Talked to teachers, principal, parents, my parents, EVERYONE. Absolutely nothing changed. It got WAY worse if anything else. So I took it and just assumed "guess this is what my life will be like" because I'm a kid and already my life is shit. Until one day, I found out I was switching schools because we were moving. And that's when I decided. I'm not going to let this fucking happen again. I won't let this shit fucking start all over again. Everything was fine at this school. A mutual joke here or there, for the most part. It was like 4 weeks into the year and I had only been made fun of a couple times. Then someone stole my sweatshirt. To sum up the process, I told the principal and we went to the guys locker and we found it inside. I decided at the end of the day I was gonna talk with this guy, face to face. That time comes and I ended up punching that motherfucker in his mouth, and somehow by extreme luck managing to move out of the way of his friend who tried to jump me from behind. I got called into the office on Monday (this happened on a Friday) and you know what? It was the best decision I ever made at that school. Principal and the staff weren't even mad. Apparently the guy was a shithead who stole all the fucking time. Spent 10 minutes in the office with the principal and other staff laughing over the whole ordeal, until they finally informed me that they have to suspend me for two weeks because of some no fighting policy, but no biggie, I get it. I came back to school two weeks later and found out I made a ton of friends because a majority of the school hated the guy. My time at school and enjoyment of it DRAMATICALLY changed, all because I stood up for myself. I wasn't made fun of ONE time the rest of that year.

TLDR

Stop telling kids to just ignore people making their life hell. Was bullied on a daily basis until my junior year at a new school when I beat the shit out of a guy who stole my sweatshirt. That single decision made me a fuck ton of friends in school staff and students, and easily was the best decision I made in highschool. It finally showed me that school (and life) didn't have to be this miserable and terrible thing.
