Playboy (well, me, for Playboy) covers ASMR, erotica, their intersection and the controversy it causes. [media] [ASMR]

As someone who's in a lot of communities like gaming, anime, cartoons... you're going to bet there is a sub-community that focuses on it being sexualized. Pokemon, My Little Pony, BioShock: Infinite -- Doesn't matter. You bet ASMR is going to have this community, it's the intimacy that these popular videos exert that have onlookers confused as to what's going on.

ANYWAYS this article is focused moreso for the NSFWASMR community, which honestly, is abysmally small. I can only imagine r/nsfwasmr generates only a couple dozen unique viewers to the subreddit daily and the only NSFW ASMRist they seem to always interview is Nica, which has only made.. a few videos? If she really is going to make a website and build a studio entirely for NSFW ASMR, good on her but I can only warn her that "pay-to-play" is not going to work at all. There have already been production companies trying to advertise high quality SFW ASMR content and got immediately burned by the complaints of the pay wall. Besides, /r/gonewildaudio will offer that free alternative in audio form, so people will flock there instead.

As for the controversy it causes, majority of people that do find ASMR and the community here and on YouTube, I feel like, haven't known how the internet.. "works". A lot of people will be angry at basic trolls, unpopular opinions, and sexualizing ASMR. Those people feel like sexualizing ASMR is going to "ruin their thing". It's like when someone tells you Rocko from Rocko's Modern Life worked at a sex operator job and now they've "ruined your childhood" and can't look at it the same way again. People who find enjoyment in ASMR use it to relieve stress, anxiety, depression.. etc. So I can imagine people can be very sensitive about these issues.

I actually do hope the NSFW ASMR community grows, because I've agreed with Nica's point of view where very intimate pornography is not nearly enough popular, if people can enjoy that over the raunchy shit people watch these days, awesome. It'll also show a more prominent line between what's SFW and NSFW, stopping people from confusing the two.

Great article by the way!
