Lola here, with my 2 cents on the whole situation:
I don't trace, you can clearly tell, I'm far from being perfect at referencing. The faces could use work. Using references isn't easy.
Although if I were to trace the photos, there would technically be nothing wrong with it. Professionals trace all the time to save time; it improves efficiency. I choose not to trace characters because I really wanna work on my ability to use references.
Twitter user who made these tweets clearly isn't a very experienced artist, or isn't an artist at all and isn't aware of how things work.
