ProxyHam: New device provides secure and anonymous Wi-Fi with a range of 2.5 miles

that's pretty neat..

I reckon in the future there will be something like "internet channels" like people have for cable, where you have to subscribe to a certain ISP to get a certain website.

This will allow them to bypass net neutrality as a private network can treat all data equally and won't resolve the DNS for the sites you want.

Then they'll do away with ICANN and you'll just type "youtube" into your browser and the value of a .com address will plummet.

The catalyst will be all these silly TLDs they're pushing out.. not many people know about them yet but once muse buys the domain muse.band and these city-state dictatorship registrars blackmail them into paying $10,000 a year to keep their domain, there will be riots.

There will still be the wild wild west of the internet of course where anyone can access any other machine via its IP but when Advance Publications is being paid handsomely by comcast to have exclusive rights to reddit and will also provide free infrastructure to distribute content to users, it'll be hard for them to refuse.

Then of course celebrities will endorse particular ISPs because the futuristic version of twitter will only be available to GlobalCiv Inc customers which provides free data for iPhone users because they found out it's cheaper and easier to have compressed content distributed and cached on user devices so instead of transferring data from somewhere overseas, you just draw small amounts of data from your closest users.

If people nearby watched the netflix show you want to see, you'll transfer bits from them rather than a central repository.

So now internet pirates will have to freely distribute websites that aren't available to all people, just like you do.
