[PSA] If your DM is raping someone's character and they seem uncomfortable. Say something.

Politics, sex and religion. And unless it was agreed before hand this really is just "erotic" role playing which is really just cringey. Its just as bad as the DM introducing Ponies and his Fursona as NPCS because thats his fetish.

I think a lot of people are offended here but I think its just sad and bad. It's just poor story telling. Its just a ton of railroading to lead to that point: "Your character surrenders because i said so, no you can't escape the prision, no you can't overwhelm the guards, no you can't use your magic now, no...etc"

I would't even say something I would stop playing with this person.

But I will say there are proper ways to approach rape as a story element but it doesn't need to involve players directly. Watch a couple of episode of Law and Order SUV really how they approach the subject in a mostly good way as a story telling element.

I will say before you read below I don't think I am "right" with my words. I think my thoughts are ever evolving but its hard to be correct with the subject. I think maybe it just shouldnt be explored at all, or you have to explore it fully and truly research it.

So...

I think also the problem here is: when the typical rape occurs in story telling told my males its always the villain and the woman sort of gets over it in a couple of hours after getting rescued.

The reality is however a lot of the time, most of the time, its someone you know. It could be a npc or someone in the party. It could be the charismatic leader of a rebellion. And a woman would have trouble bringing this up, or the other party members might try brushing it off, or society might. But they also might think more justly.

Because thats the thing: a villian raping someone is sort of expected. Thats how a DM can enact their fantasy in this case because hey, its a villain, hes expected to be bad and there is nothing you can do about it at the moment or after.

And thats the poor story telling part. Its cardboard, a villain with no redeemable qualities. But hey he will die a painful death and everyone will be "happy".

You make that character friendly however, oh no, thats not right is it? That's someone truly evil...but its the truth. It's the grey morality of the situation, or the two faced perception that people have. And something they don't really explore. If an important NPC gets killed because he tried to force himself onto a another character for instance.

There are right ways and there are wrong ways to do this and really more wrong ways than right. Its always clear however when you feel something isn't right with how the DM is acting that you should stop him or leave. Too many stories are about the DM's using the game to project their inner feelings, and when they do that its time to go. They should see a psychologist and DM for them. Don't get caught up in such petty little performances as a side actor.
