Pupils of reddit, what 'clicked' about a teacher after meeting their kids or former students?

Not exactly clicked, but the daughter copied the father's behaviour more or less.

I had a french teacher at my middle school and his daughter was simply a student. He was a stereotype introvert that couldn't keep any of his classes under control and generally never smiled. Several years ago, he divorced his wife after she got in a relationship with the chemistry teacher at my middle school and he became even more unhappy. In this period I met his daughter. She was a goth, very introvert, few friends, but she seemed a lot happier than her father and just happy in general.

One morning, when my classmates and I were waiting for our french teacher to show up, she dramatically left the teacher's lounge with all the other teachers trying to comfort her while she was crying. Apparently, the french teacher I talked about jumped from the roof of his house, but he didn't die. He ended up in hospital.

Several weeks after that, I came across his daughter. She seemed really upset, unlike her usual self. Then i overheard her conversation with a friend of hers and it basically came down to her saying 'life is futile and not worth living' and him kind of brushing it off. I kinda cried immediately right there, i don't know why, but I found it so painful that her father's depression and actions affected her so enormously.

So the week after that was valentine's day and you could buy roses from the school, with which you could leave a note and the student council would deliver them to the person you want for one euro. I chose to send her a rose with a note: 'I can't imagine what you're going through, but I care, have a nice valentine's day xoxo'

Without my name though. I never saw her direct reaction to it, but after that day she seemed to smile a lot again. And I'd like to think that the simple rose and note contributed to her finding a bit of happiness again.
