[Question] Do you think that I absolutely should read the novel before season 3 airs?

Sure.

[SUPER HEAVY BOOK SPOILERS SERIOUSLY I'M NOT KIDDING](/s "The documents that comprise the vast majority of the book were recovered from an active crime scene, and all of the details of the crime scene are heavily classified. The documents were compiled by a mysterious figure referred throughout the text as "The Archivist." At the end of the book The Archivist voluntarily reveals his identity as none other than Maj. Garland Briggs.

A large part of the book focuses on Doug Milford... yes, THAT Doug Milford, the mayor's brother, who was basically the first Man in Black... as he researches various UFO sightings, after having been presumably abducted by one as a teen.

Milford hand-picks Briggs to continue researching paranormal phenomena, which is what brought the Briggs family to Twin Peaks.

After Milford's death, Briggs realizes he must bring another person in on his project, and believes that Cooper is the right choice.

However, in the very last entry in the dossier, which presumably happens a couple of days after the final shot of Episode 29, Briggs gets a visit from Cooper and realizes that something is very wrong, and that Cooper cannot be trusted with any of the information regarding Project Bluebook.

This very heavily indicates that the crime scene in question is a result of Maj. Briggs' murder, with Coop's doppleganger as the most likely suspect.

There are a few other things in the book which indicate what might happen on the series, but the other most obvious one is confirmation that Audrey Horne survived the blast at TPS&L.")
