r/Michigan Unemployment Weekly Megathread: 07-04-2021

After my seasonal job, I couldn’t find work due to covid. I did what everyone else struggling at the time did and started receiving pandemic relief pay until I was hired again. It’s been quite a few months since I’ve been off unemployment (I believe February was my last payment), and now just a few days ago I receive mail claiming that I was “overpaid” and “misrepresented” and that I owe almost 8,000 dollars to the government. I didn’t receive NEAELY that amount. It’s ironic how often I received emails at the beginning of this year telling me I was eligible for more unemployment benefits. I am who I say I am, I collected on time, still applied to jobs, and dealt with the pandemic the best I could as a young adult. It’s so hard to reach anyone from the Unemployment phone line and have no clue as to how to start this appeal. Has this happened to anyone else/how’d you deal with it?
