/r/television's Whatcha' Watchin' Wednesday: What have you been watching and what do you think of it? (Week of March 23, 2016)

Daredevil - It was entertaining, Bernthal killed it, Woll and Henson grew as actors and characters. The first 4-5 episodes where it was DD vs. Punisher were superb and reminded me of what made S1 so awesome. The Fisk/Murdoch dynamic where they both respected each other and wanted similar ends, but with different means, was my favorite part of S1. The Castle/Murdoch dynamic kicked that up a notch.

Then it got way too convoluted and sloppy. I honestly still don't know what the Blacksmith stuff was all about. Why have an entire trial and episode where Castle is put in jail if he can escape the law that easily? D'onofrio's Fisk is always a treat but the way he betrayed Castle felt sort of off. Elektra did absolutely nothing for me. I didn't believe that Murdoch would care so much for her.

The final fight scene was a disappointment as well. Not because I was expecting the showrunners to spend millions of dollars on some epic fight, but because it totally undermined the threat of the Hand. The DD that we had been presented up to that point was not capable of taking out 200 of those ninjas. He could barely handle a 10-15 at once before that. He should have gotten destroyed. I thought the show was above having to power up/power down DD and his enemies arbitrarily. I usually don't care that much for the logistics of fight scenes, but the way that those four mooks were standing watching DD/Elektra fight that main bad guy (or maybe he was just a guy with a cooler weapon than the other guys had?) completely broke immersion. I never felt that DD was in actual danger.

Punisher showing up late in the fight to snipe the two mooks...I totally understand why they included that. But it felt kind of wasted.

Overall I'm still very excited for S3. I still love this show, it was just a step back in terms of quality.
