[part 2 of 2] lol. Had to cut this in 2, it was 14900 text characters. lol.

I'm there yeah these polk 70's sound ok but I'm hearing some subtle crackling once in a while. Look at the visions store. Hey they're on rare super sale, something like $400. I don't think I've seen those lower than $700, on sale. Just looked.. Now the 4 driver ones are called TSi500. On sale $498. Save $602! Well at least I didn't get burned. I'm there.. let's ship these used speakers out before some tweeters crap out again or something.

Sell those 70's for 200 bucks on kijiji! The couple guys heading out knew how to carry them. You put it on your shoulder. If you have it where one arm has more of the weight, it'll be sore halfway up the stairs. These things go deeper than the 65's. They're a pain in the ass to move around. Too big.

If you think of me selling those crapped out polk 60's for $100, then selling these for $200.. I'm still sorta even somehow for what I paid for those 70's in the first place, for $300 right. Take that $200, buy the new 75's, those only cost me $200. Well, tax but there ya go. Not getting too burned. Plus BRAND NEW.

This is like cars, the last 3 I got were BRAND NEW. Well I lost my licence over a year now and not getting it back till next year but that's another story too eh. But yeah.. used cars are the worst for germs and people puking in vents like I did a bit once.. heh.

Want that story while we're at it.. oh I took a cab home and forgot a prescription sunglasses glasses case in 'em. Next day drove hungover to the cab place to pick 'em up. The fucking glare with just normal glasses out there. I get back in the car, stopped at a nearby stop sign so a pedestrian 'll slowly pass. I go.. fuck I'm gonna hurl. Not good to open the door and do that with people around. I go, aim for the passenger floor mat. Well a bit went in the vents. lol. That was when I had used cars and sold that one a few months later. Just used cars though are pretty gross. I hate used shit.

Anything I get used, like electronics, ya open that up and get the dirty out. Don't think I opened up those used speakers though. Could be all kinds of spiders or who knows what the way there's that air puffer hole eh. But I didn't bother messing with opening them up. Other things though like used computer stuff with air fans. Open up that damn power supply box, for sure. So I never really liked those used speakers.

Then I go, ok got good NEW speakers. Now this used Pioneer receiver from the 90's has got to go. That could be crapping out. I wanna hear how things sound, no fancy bullshit in recent years with "surround" or bass boost. I want left and right, not 5 channels.. and just bass and treble and that's it. Hard time finding a receiver that simple. I wind up getting this Sony STR-DH130. It's good.

Here's a little photo album with 3 pics of what I'm talking about. lol. https://imgur.com/a/Bh0xm

Ok so there's the newer Sony receiver. The pic below that, you see the old Pioneer. Maybe somebody can figure out that model number. That's a 47in LED screen. Then the 3rd one.. those 75's in the boxes. I thought the pawn shop ones that weren't in boxes filled out the hatchback. This was the entire hatchback and had to front up the seats to close the back. This was a regular Prius too which is quite roomy in the back for cargo. Not as small as the "Prius C" I got later. You know, the ones that got impounded and I got Toyota to get it out and they auctioned it off and owe them 9 grand for that still. lol. But that's another story and we don't wanna get side-tracked eh.

Then I don't screw around, go buy new speaker wire. I had some used wire, but no, it's all gotta be brand new. lol. Could have caused the crackling.

ok it's all BRAND NEW. Well, not the comp though eh. Start to work on stuff.. crackle crackle.. hahaha. I go, what the fuck is causing this!!! Look around.. notice it's my fan several feet away, pointing this way.. blowing a bit on this blackout fabric I have as curtains. hahaha. Wouldn't always do it because the fan's on this bad white plastic and metal folding table. The kind you use when you're sitting on a couch, but I don't have no couch. So wouldn't always point at the curtains depending if it's blowing on me or not. Variable "crackle" in your "audio".

It's like this bad parachute type fabric or something. I have the pull down white roller thing, some denim fabric curtains, still have light so got this blackout fabric. Yes, you see that in the pic.

But yeah.. I'd still have the Polk 65's if it wasn't for those tweeters crapping out. Wound up with more bass than was good enough before. Now I got lotsa bass. More than those "engineer" guys with their expensive consoles but crappy bookshelf speakers. Yeah they talk like they know it all about the multi-track program plug-in parameters. But they won't be able to tell you what's actually going on with bottom end rumble that your tunes may be generating. So don't listen to what they have to say about what the bass on your stuff sounds like.

Headphones. Years ago I had an expensive set where you'd hear fair bass response. Those damn things would vibrate a little bit later on. More bad rumbling or something which isn't from the sound. I wanna know what's really going on with the original audio file. Not headphone vibrating from some loose component inside. As years went on the fucking exterior material was decomposing. Ever have that happen to like fake leather or some shit. Threw them out.

Got these cheap ones, they're poofy. At least they're not small like bad walkman headphones or something. Had this mic headset thing. Took that off. On the plug wire, it had this cheezy "bass boost" box where you'd put in a battery in and turn on that switch for the "mega bass". That box has a vol level turn knob you rub your thumb against to keep turning. Sure, now I have no clue what my original audio file sounds like. I turned that bass boost shit off, and it still has original audio with no batteries in it.

Hadn't used those cheap pouffy headphones in years. Was making stuff with just the Polk 60's and have the vol on 50 for what comes out the TV screen. Was done my first tune and go, let's check out what it sounds like on those headphones. Fucking tin. hahahah.

Years ago when I made stuff it was with the other more expensive headphones. Those were ok. Had some kind of bass response and treble was good. When I got the Polk 60's though, now you could hear even the most minor hiss. Headphones sucked when they're on your ears for long. Annoying, no air in your ears, you can get a bit of a cold or some shit if they're on all day long. Now I do all my stuff over just those tower speakers. They work great for hearing the most minor hiss. Using RX to take out noise and shit.

I think before I chucked out those good headphones, I would put them on and oh oh.. I hear some really minor hiss here that I don't on the big speakers. Would clean stuff up for that eh. It's like another level though. I think these big speakers are good enough for the range of what you want to remove hiss noise from. Any more than that, whatever. When you have it all mixed in a tune, probably wouldn't notice it as much. But just for sound effect samples.. probably do have some kind of minuscule amount of hiss you'd notice on high end headphones. Whatever.. good enough with this setup.

The computer.. I have this Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium soundcard. The audio creation mode has all kinds of audio options. But for the bare sound I want it with less extra crap as possible. That's sorta like the receiver. I don't want surround, bass boost, and who knows what of all these other extra bells and whistles. lol. I could go on about all those audio options, but gotta keep this short, eh? hahahaha.

Well maybe mention a few it has. SVM smart volume management. Really gotta watch that shit is off. It's ok for movies though, raises dialogue but doesn't over crank action scenes. Really have to make sure that's checked off when recording what you hear. There's this X-Fi crystalizer to add treble stuff. EAX surround enhancements. Stereoizer 3D bass boosts. All that shit is OFF. I wanna hear what the original file sounds like.

I have all that off, and only have the bass and treble slider up to 100%. When you're recording stuff, if you have those at 100%, it doubles the treble and bass. So when recording, set those to 50% if you're recording what you hear and it'd be the same thing.

Gotta watch it these days with all this extra crap while playing. It can vary depending on somebody's setup. They can lose track of what does the original audio file look and sound like.

You want a summary? Explaining why I can perhaps hear proper bass response. Minuscule treble hiss.. for the most part, but I'd have to get some high end expensive headphones again to know for sure. Would probably hear another level of minor treble hiss with those that you can't detect on the tower speakers. Good enough with just these speakers though because cleaning up the hiss on those sound effects 'll get buried later when things are mixed in a track. It's kind of like, if you turn up volume, now you'll hear more hiss. Where do you draw the line.

TL;DR Let's get into it about bookshelf speakers in your expensive studios. lol.
