Reddit, what is the GREATEST lie you've ever told?

So I'm 16 and I've got my license and my parents bought me a car (used, second hand but still, it was my first so yay!). My friend stays the night and in the morning I'm going to drive him home. We leave the house and that's when things go downhill quickly. See, my friend has recently moved out to the sticks and has started smoking because that's what the all do out there. He has a pack of cigarettes and for the past few days he's been getting me to try his new habit. So, here we are in my car and starting down the road to take him home and he asks if I want one. "Sure" I say as I fire up the car cigarette lighter and when pops I have a bright idea pop into my mind to let my friend hold the wheel while I light up. 2-3 seconds into me fumbling around looking down at the lighter and trying to light the cigarette I hear "You're doing it wrong"... Time froze as it suddenly occurred to me that in order for my friend to notice this he must've been looking at me and not the road. I think it simultaneously hit him as well because as my eyes started to rise up to road the last thing I remember hearing was "OH SHIT, WE'RE GONNA HIT!". We had drifted into the oncoming lane of traffic and were about to be head on with a tractor trailer. At the last second, my friend jerked the wheel to the left, putting us into the ditch and directly in the path of a fire hydrant. We promptly punted the hydrant, slowing the car to nearly a halt and setting off the air bags. I woke up dazed and confused with my car on the opposite shoulder of the road and instinctively tried to throw my foot into the brake only to hit the gas instead. It didn't matter though, because while the motor was still running the transmission had been jarred away from the engine meaning that once I did find the brake and stop the car it would never move under it's own power again. Seeing all the dust from the air bag and still not fully regaining consciousness I suddenly thought "The car must be on fire!" and struggled to get out. I found my friend outside my door. He had already escaped and was trying to help me out. I stood outside and feeling the fresh air finally came to realize what had just happened. Almost instantly we could hear the sirens in the distance of emergency vehicles approaching. Turns out, the guy following us just happened to be a retired police officer who had seen the accident and dove into the driveway of the nearest business to call for help (cell phones existed, but he didn't have one at the time). I looked at my friend and we both new telling the truth would lead to BIG trouble for both of us. Quickly, we had to come up with a story. I told my friend to ditch the smokes which he quickly tossed into the nearby woods. I looked at him and said, "Ok here's the story; I passed out, you grabbed the wheel to save us from hitting the truck." His eyes were wide and he was starting to get the thousand yard stare but he nodded in agreement just as the ambulance arrived. We were quickly separated but I just kept repeating that I didn't know and must've passed out and just hoped that he was holding up his end.

We were both taken to the same hospital and by then of course, both our parents had been notified. They were there seemingly immediately and, just like all the doctors and medical personnel, were asking us over and over to repeat what happened. Finally, it happened. One of the doctors came in and told my parents that he believed I may have had a micro seizure and while more tests would be needed, the preliminary tests showed that it was likely the case. My jaw nearly hit the floor but I quickly shut it. Could it be? Was I going to get away with it? I was given a prescription for anti-seizure meds and had to set up appointments for further tests. All the tests would of course come back negative and the doctors wrote it off to my parents as indicating that this was probably a once in a lifetime experience that would not repeat itself. I was issued only 1 ticket for failure to keep right but my lawyer had it dropped due to a medical cause, My parents insurance totalled out my car and my parents felt bad so they used the money to buy me another vehicle, and all I had to do was take anti-seizure meds for a year "as a precaution".

To this day my parents still do not know what actually happened. My friend and I remained friends and talked about it often and how he owes me for not only wrecking my car but also having been made a hero (by me) for not letting us crash into a semi. It was the greatest lie I ever told.

TL/DR I crashed my first car at 16 because I was stupid, lied and said i passed out, doctors said it was a micro seizure, and all I had to do was take anti-seizure meds for a year to get away with it.
