Adding one more perspective: I chose a shitty branch in Engineering. I self taught myself to code, landed a job in Bangalore. Doing considerably better than what I had imagined for myself. Now I told a cousin, if you don't know what branch to choose, pick computer science. Digital penetration is constantly increasing and I can't think of that many fields that pay decent. Guess who picked another shitty branch and is now asking me 'How do I learn to code by myself, like you did ? '

Not everyone, but some people honestly want to impart their learnings to others so that the other person doesn't have to reinvent the wheel.

TL;DR : Not every relative is an asshole !
