"Atheism has nothing to do with that, atheism is just the claim that there is no deity. I assume you're talking about big bang? Well, first and foremost, the "nothing" that you're talking about, is not the same "nothing" that physicist talk about. Also, it is indeed pretty scientific. We KNOW that the big bang happened, but we do not know yet what happened before, which is why people believe in the big bang, because it's true, but don't make any more claims beyond that, because we do not know that. Inserting the god of the gaps is the most illogical approach to finding out what happened before the big bang, if anything at all. Saying "we don't know" is the best scientific solution until we actually know something. Guesswork is anti-science. Also, I assume you believe in a god. Doesn't god have the same problem that you're speaking of yourself here? If the universe must have had a maker, so must god, unless of course you're talking about special pleading in which you say god doesn't need a creator, then why does the universe need a creator? If something is so improbable that it had to be designed (the universe) that would make the designer EVEN MORE improbable, making the designer need a designer, which creates an endless illusion of regression that takes us nowhere. Therefore atheist just cuts out the middleman."
