[Reviews and Opinions on Cursed Child](/spoiler)

I just saw the play over the last two days and I think that the execution of the play was phenomenal. Great effects, great music, great lighting, great characters, great humour...

...but I didn't really like story.

It kind of tained my memory of the seven books. I liked the idea of a "happily ever after" (at least as far as Voldemort is concerned) after book seven. But this play basically undoes that. Harry's scar hurts, the threat of Voldemort returning is back, etc. Not to mention Harry's kid meddles in time to touch on events we already saw in 1-7 and threaten to change them. It was just kind of one big eye roll to see that closed story line come back. I would have heavily preferred if Albus got his own story rather than getting stuck in Harry's thing with Voldemort. And finally, the idea of Voldemort having a kid is just pretty laughable. I always saw him as asexual. I can't imagine him wanting to have sex and "accidentally" having a child, and I can't imagine him wanting a legacy either. He has no friends, he wants no friends, no one is really close to him. I'd consider a child to fall into that category too -- I can't imagine him wanting one.

But despite my issues with the story, the play itself was very enjoyable to watch. I didn't like Albus as a character that much, but Scorpius was absolutely brilliant. I'm glad I went and enjoyed the play, but I think anyone who just reads the script will do themselves a disservice. They'll get the shaky story line without any of the impressive performance and execution.
