Useful skills, trades or information to learn that would be useful during a collapse?

I plan on being a general handyman with a broad enough base of skills that I can be relied on to "fix anything" without being reliant on parts that need to be bought or traded. There are a surprising amount of things that can be fixed with a few simple tools, creativity, and elbow grease.

My ultimate goal is to be the guy people in my community call when something breaks and they don't have the money or knowledge to fix it. This way, I position myself as an indispensable community member rather than trying to do everything on my own. I really do like helping people anyway, so giving myself enough skills to be able to help a lot of people is a natural choice.

So, my recommendation is to learn as many blue collar skills as you can. Read manuals, take cheap community college courses, work with your hands, pick up broken stuff from the garbage or junk yard and get it working, try to fix everything yourself around the house instead of calling someone or buying something new, or even watch how-to youtube videos in your spare time.
