You're right, he isn't that player anymore, but he is still incredibly talented and has a decent goalscoring record. He also has the ability to improve once again in Europe. Also, how can you say he wouldn't improve us when he is much more mobile than Benteke? He's also more of a team player and links up much better.

Yeah man, we should just buy lots of half decent players for small fees and not care about their actual quality because some of our bigger ambition moves didn't work out. Then we can guarantee our whole squad stays mediocre. Pato doesn't improve the squad and despite being in an injury crisis we have a huge squad as it is. I want improvements, not more just decent players.

This point is just rubbish to put it bluntly. Name me a big signing that Klopp made at Dortmund, and then you'd have a point. Klopp's way has always been to identify talent he believes he can work with, at a reasonable price, not splash big money on signings who could very well turn out to be expensive flops. Pato has the potential to improve under Klopp, and he wouldn't be the first player in his mid 20's to have done so.

Also, as someone critical of such a transfer, what would you suggest as an alternative? Another £30-40m striker? What talented world class striker is going to sign for us? Also, as stated before, there's no guarantee it would work and then we have another massive flop. If Pato doesn't work out, we shift him on for a few million, and cut our losses on a few million before looking elsewhere.

We could easily go and trump Newcastle's bid for Lacazette and spend £20m plus on him, but why do that? Its still a risk and might not pay off, at which point he becomes an expensive burden.

As for Pato, there is absolutely nothing that shows he cannot reach the heights he did for Milan for us. He may not, but if he does we have got a star player on the cheap.
